Westmount Quarry, Jersey

This mixed use development in a disused quarry makes use of a 40m high rock face as a setting for a series of medium to high rise residential buildings. The building heights vary to follow the horizon line behind. A high quality public realm has been designed using local granite and surrounded by a mix of commercial and social uses.

Design
The buildings are stepped and oriented south to maximise aspect and benefit from sea views. The building form is broken up by an interplay of fin walls which enclose balconies and glazing to the apartments.

The four stepped blocks accommodate a total of 200 studios and one and two bed apartments as well as sheltered housing, a 60 bed nursing home and 300sqm commercial space.

The buildings are bound together by a stepped two level podium. At the lower public level the podium acts as the public access to a 150sqm nursery, the nursing home and parking. At the higher level, it supports a more private garden used as access and spill out from the apartments.
