The North Residences provides 62 new flats for staff and students and a nursery for 84 children. The building is formed by four, 4 storey wings connected by lower accommodation, with the nursery at the centre of the scheme. The composition creates three south facing garden courts that provide a focus for the residences and a secluded garden for the nursery.
The elevations are clad with vertical cedar boarding, sitting on a ribbed stone-like plinth. The timber will weather
to a silvery tone, complimenting the grey of the zinc-clad South Residences opposite. The composition of large shallow and small deep window reveals enlivens the timber elevations and reflects the arrangement of the living and bedrooms. The corner living rooms face over a public square and help to enliven the street.
The nursery is approached through the central garden court, the high garden wall providing a secure boundary.
